How To Be Successful In One Simple Step
Hello you beautiful soul.
Do you remember when the only challenges you faced in your day were whether or not to spend your pocket money in the sweet shop on the way home, or whether to save them up for an *insert comic of choice*?
When life was happening around you whilst you just did what you did, without ever having a conscious agenda, or worrying about what people thought of you?
I do... I remember those days.
I also remember when I started to become acutely aware of others and of how they viewed me... and how suddenly my view of myself became filtered according to the feedback I got, or the judgements my mind told me others were making (I was about 12).
This is amplified now by the online world - and it's so common to feel as though everyone around you has it all figured out, that you're falling behind - and that this means you're somehow a failure.
There is always so much to do, so much you need to learn, and so many 'shoulds" - it's hardly surprising so many of us feel we're behind before we've begun, or that everyone else is playing a game we don't know the rules for.
It's easy to feel success is something others have, not something you have.
It's easy - and it isn't your fault, because that's how it can seem if you buy into the messages you get bombarded with daily.
We get caught up in the myth that success is defined by outside things, such as how many Facebook friends you have, the number of Instagram followers you have, how much money you earn, or how many holidays you go on.
The truth is you are being sold a lie.
These things may or may not be great and fulfilling for you - but they certainly don't define your success.
It's not about how many people you know or what circles you mix in. It's not about numbers or statistics - and it certainly isn't about a plethora of 'shoulds'.
What Success Is About
It's how many days, hours and minutes you spend being true to yourself, honouring your heart and soul, whilst respecting the needs of others in your life.
Whether you are truly present and awake today.
Whether you really look at and listen to those you talk to.
Whether listening and creating space for those you care about opens something up for them that may not have been opened without your presence.....
It's managing your time effectively so that you prioritise things that bring you joy and help others bring joy to their lives too - in whatever way that is for you.
It's honouring your boundaries, staying grounded and connected with what's important to you.
Being who you are, unapologetically - and having people in your life that resonate with you and love you for who you truly are.
Appreciating all that you have, and taking time to acknowledge that regularly to yourself.
It's having awareness of the small stuff like how often you remember to look for the vulnerable small child hiding inside the adults you meet.
Don't get trapped into believing you have to follow in the footsteps of others, that you have to always be 'doing'.
That the world will end if you don't watch the news or look at your texts or your facebook feed or that it means you're rubbish if no-one comments on your blog.
Getting trapped in that mind set is tantamount to falling into the rabbit hole like Alice. Good things and bad things may happen- but whilst you're falling you have no control over whether you follow your heart or not, or what path you choose to tread.
Your Simplest Path to Success
Get in touch with the path your heart wants you to walk. There are numerous ways to do this, but the simplest, quickest way is to commit to a daily positive habit of getting quiet, and being still - even if for only for a few minutes. The more you do it, the easier it will get and the more you'll start to hear the things your highest self wants you to know.
Commit to following your path in a way that is right for you. This requires courage and a willingness to change. Most importantly it requires awareness, so that you catch yourself every time you veer off-course (which you will - but its much easier to get back on track when you already have awareness and clarity!).
Stay focussed and let every decison you make come from your heart. There will be times when you have to do things you dont want to do - life happens - but when you have heightened awareness, at the very least you are conscious of whether you actively chose to do something or not. Which is very different to being pulled or lulled into unconsciously following.
Success is living, breathing, being who you really are. It is being awake, aware, making choices from your heart and not sleepwalking through a life designed by others.
I feel this so passionately that it has become the biggest influence for my upcoming book The Magical Unfolding.
If I could only share one thing with you, it would be to honour who you are. It's how you uncover true success, magic and meaning. I know that, because that's what happened to me.
My writing and everything I'm currently creating for this new website is inspired by my desire to play my part in helping as many people as possible live their best life....part of that is debunking society myths so that you're more empowered to set yourself free.
Life is too short to spend it living in a whirlwind feeling pulled and pushed by others.
And you matter more than you know.
Over to you...
Does this resonate with you? How do you view success? If there is one actionable thing you could commit to changing about your life to reflect your view of success, what it would be?
